Gears, Goggles and lots of Steam!

Steampunk couple

If you are into Steampunk you probably guessed what this blog is about. If you aren’t, then you probably feel like I did at Comic Con. A photographers dream, a geeks fascination and just awesome to look at. I saw them first on Friday and was completely fascinated by the costumes, but I had no idea what it was. The detail that goes into it is stunning as you will see in the pictures. The fact that I didn’t pay attention to it prior, is irritating. I play World of Warcraft and it references it with gnomes and goblins.. I even have a gnome! Anyways.. Since I assume a bunch of people don’t know what it is I will copy over some information from Wikepedia at the end, since I don’t know enough about it to really describe it. But believe me, I am so looking into it for the future.

Another couple

What I did learn this weekend:
*Steampunk is often a lifestyle
*Followers of Steampunk name their weapons
*Often their houses and apartments are decorated in that fashion
*There is a difference between Victorian and Wild West Steampunk
*There are art, fashion and design aspects for it
*It always incorporates some kind of clockwork or machinery and goggles
*If you are looking for things ETSY online has homemade items

As far as photography goes, they are a dream. They love posing, they love getting their picture taken, it can be worked with on so many levels, there are so many facets that can be highlighted, they are all unique, and most settings work with them. I do want a photo-shoot at some point with them, or me as one of them (although I find I should loose some weight) although I have seen this suit just about every size and shape and still look good! This is not just for Halloween but any occasion. I can see an awesome wedding idea for this already!

Description:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery,[1] especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century’s British Victorian era or American “Wild West”, in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Steampunk perhaps most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era’s perspective on fashionculturearchitectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the modern authors Philip PullmanScott Westerfeld, and China Mieville. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airshipsanalog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace‘sAnalytical Engine.

Steampunk may also, though not necessarily, incorporate additional elements from the genres of fantasyhorrorhistorical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre. The term steampunk originated during the 1980s and early 1990s, though now retroactively refers to many works of fiction created even as far back as the 19th century itself.

Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures, that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction.[2] Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical “steampunk” style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk.

Cool vendor!

If you have any more questions about it, let me know. I will research this more and will be able to answer more of your questions. I am a noob in this field, so I can’t say a whole lot about it. I’d love to though. You may see more about this in the future.
As always, share, like, comment. I want to hear from you! Don’t forget to check out the slideshow 😉 Next post will be about Star Wars!!
